Saturday, in the park. You’d think it was St. Patrick’s Day.
This is the one we always look forward to. It doesn’t get any better than an afternoon in San Diego’s Balboa Park with great music, great people and a truck load of Irish beer. We’ll tap the Guinness first if you don’t mind. It’s the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Irish Festival in Balboa Park (6th & Laurel St.) – Saturday, March 12.
The Shamrockers will join Tony Cummins, Irish Rockin’ Rebels, Pocket Whiskey Fellas
and Skelpin on the Main Stages inside the very large and very fun Beer Garden area (must be 21+ to enter). But there’s fun all day with the Parade starting at 11:00 (get there early), craft vendors, kids games and rides, Irish fare and an amazing crowd.
The Shamrockers have been at this since 1983 when they first appeared in the back of a VW Rabbit playing acoustically for the parade. In 1987 the band strapped a gas powered generator to a tow-trailer and went electric. There’s been a lot of history since then, making it through a few El Ninos, even surviving a hail storm. Although we’re not playing in the parade this year, we’re excited to make our 9th appearance on the Festival Stage. The Shamrockers take the stage at 4:45pm and close out the big day.
As always, we look forward to seeing some familiar faces and raising a pint or two. It’s a great day to be Irish! Slainte!
The band returns to the Princess Pub in Little Italy to celebrate the New Year! What’s become an annual tradition, the Shams are dusting off the road cases and getting together for a couple rounds of their favorites and as always a rousing chorus of Auld Lang Syne. We hope to see you there. Expect the crowd to assemble early, probably a small cover to get past the front door and the parking in Little Italy to be an adventure. The Irish band, in a British pub, in Little Italy for an early New Year – Slainte!
It’s been a while, but our favorite time of year is here! Time to dust off the song book, pull up a stool for band practice at The Sod and get ready for the big day! We’re back at our favorite places this year, so be sure to say hello if you can make it out for a glorious day in San Diego!
- Irish Festival in Balboa Park – 6th & Laurel at 1:30
- ShamROCK 2015 in the Gaslamp – on the Pub Stage at 4:00
- Just added! The Blackthorn Irish Pub in Clairemont from 6:00 – 9:00
A long overdue post of photos from ShamRock in the Gaslamp from our gal pal Cindi!
The countdown is on, the day is almost here. If you can survive the weekend, the very day is the real thing. Join us at McGregor’s for a great St. Patrick’s Day party. The ShamRockers take to the stage around 6:00 or as soon as the fiddle player is ready. Hope to see you here and celebrate your Irish heritage and some great music.
