This is the one we always look forward to. It doesn’t get any better than an afternoon in San Diego’s Balboa Park with great music, great people and a truck load of Irish beer. We’ll tap the Guinness first if you don’t mind. It’s the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Irish Festival in Balboa Park (6th & Laurel St.) – Saturday, March 12.
The Shamrockers will join Tony Cummins, Irish Rockin’ Rebels, Pocket Whiskey Fellas
and Skelpin on the Main Stages inside the very large and very fun Beer Garden area (must be 21+ to enter). But there’s fun all day with the Parade starting at 11:00 (get there early), craft vendors, kids games and rides, Irish fare and an amazing crowd.
The Shamrockers have been at this since 1983 when they first appeared in the back of a VW Rabbit playing acoustically for the parade. In 1987 the band strapped a gas powered generator to a tow-trailer and went electric. There’s been a lot of history since then, making it through a few El Ninos, even surviving a hail storm. Although we’re not playing in the parade this year, we’re excited to make our 9th appearance on the Festival Stage. The Shamrockers take the stage at 4:45pm and close out the big day.
As always, we look forward to seeing some familiar faces and raising a pint or two. It’s a great day to be Irish! Slainte!
